According to the U.S. government and the 9/11 Commission, an Islamic man in Afghanistan, known as Osama bin Laden, used his terrorist organization, known as al Qaeda (haters of freedom) to carry out the terrorist attacks on September 11. Let's look at what was involved in bringing about one of the most diabolical terrorist attacks in history.

The players:

Osama bin Laden - freedom fighter in Afghanistan, established military training camps in Afghanistan and forced out the Soviets with the full support and funding of the U.S. Congress and the CIA. Al Qaeda fighters were later used in the Balkans by the Clinton Administration to overthrow Serbia.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld - presides over NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, which uses ground-based radar, airborne radar, satellites, fighter aircraft, "proven command structures" and intelligence capabilities to enforce control of the skies over the United States and Canada.

The President of the United States George W. Bush - presides over the Pentagon, NORAD, and all intelligence agencies.

Dennis Hastert (R,IL), Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives - has oversight over executive agencies to ensure that taxpayer money is used legally and appropriately.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) - collects, evaluates, and disseminates foreign intelligence to assist the President and senior U.S. Government policymakers in making decisions relating to national security.

Vice President of the United States Dick Cheney - directed the response to 9/11 from the White House emergency bunker.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) - the investigative arm of the Dept. of Justice, responsible to protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats and to uphold and enforce the criminal federal laws of the United States.

The National Security Agency (NSA) - part of the Dept. of Defense, responsible for the collection and analysis of global communications, including radio and the internet. Operates Echelon to monitor civilian telephone, fax and data traffic.

John Ashcroft, Attorney General of the United States, Dept of Justice (DOJ) - investigates and prosecutes violations of federal laws, represents the interests of the president.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) - responsible for the safety of civil aviation, regulates and controls the air traffic system, regulates commercial air space.

* Fifteen of the nineteen alleged hijackers were able to obtain visas at the U.S Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia so they could enter the United States. Three used Visa Express where no interviews were required. The Jeddah Consulate had previously been used by the CIA to bring bin Laden recruits into the U.S. for training, to be returned to Afghanistan to fight the Soviets.

* In June of 2001, the FAA rescinded a 40-year-old rule allowing pilots to carry guns into the cockpit.

* Sec. of Defense Rumsfeld and the Joint Chiefs of Staff changed the long-standing rules on how hijackings should be handled on June 1, 2001. Effective after that date, NORAD had to obtain approval directly from Rumsfeld in order to respond to off-course aircraft - which as a matter of routine occurred 67 times in the 8 months prior to 9/11. On the morning of 9/11, Rumsfeld was in his "usual intelligence briefing" in the Pentagon and "continued his briefing" until he smelled smoke in his office.

* After the alleged al Qaeda operatives entered the U.S., they entered flight schools at several different locations. Several attended U.S. military training facilities, such as the Defense Language School at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, and the Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida.

* Dennis Hastert, Speaker of the House, and several other members of Congress refused to meet with FBI agents who wanted to tell what they knew about a planned terrorist attack on lower Manhattan. John Ashcroft's Dept. of Justice intervened. David Schippers, Chicago attorney and previous Clinton impeachment investigator, called several members of Congress (including Hastert) begging them to take testimony from the FBI agents before the terrorist act occurred.[10] The agents were later threatened with prosecution by the DOJ if they went public with what they knew.[11]

* In July of 2001, a CIA official was reported to have met with Osama bin Laden, who was receiving treatment for kidney problems at an American hospital in Dubai. France's Le Figaro newspaper and Radio France International reported that bin Laden checked into the American Hospital Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, a 100-bed, acute-care general hospital, July 4 and stayed until July 14. He arrived from Quetta, Pakistan, accompanied by his personal doctor, four bodyguards and a male nurse. Bin Laden received many visitors: local dignitaries and family members, including the CIA agent,[12] Larry Mitchell, who was widely recognized locally. Mitchell was recalled to the U.S. shortly thereafter. At the time, bin Laden was wanted by the U.S. government for possible involvement in the USS Cole bombing. The CIA dismissed the report as "absurd." When questioned, both news agencies stood by their reports.[13] The urologist who is said to have treated bin Laden, Dr. Terry Callaway, refused to answer any questions.[12]

* An FBI informant in San Diego, California, provided housing and assistance to two of the alleged hijackers: al-Mihdar and al-Hazmi. The informant claimed he had no way of knowing that they were going to carry out a terrorist attack [14] and had not provided their full names to the FBI. When their names were placed on the Terrorist Watch List in Aug, 2001, the FBI couldn't find al-Mihdhar even though his name was in the San Diego phone book [15] and they had one of their informants housing him. When the Joint House-Senate Intelligence Committees wanted to question the FBI informant about his role, the FBI refused. To this day, the informant has not been questioned. A senior member of the FBI’s Congressional Affairs Staff stated “the Administration would not sanction a staff interview with the source." The FBI provided the informant with a Dept. of Justice lawyer at taxpayers' expense.[16] Of course, they didn't need to worry about the 9/11 Commission demanding to question him.

* The CIA did not put al-Mihdhar and al-Hazmi's names on the Terrorist Watch List until August 24, 2001, even though they had information identifying them as suspected terrorists with visas to enter the U.S. for 18 months previous.[17] The CIA began surveillance on Khaled al-Mihdhar in late 1999. In testimony before the Joint Congressional Inquiry, CIA Director Tenet stated that the CIA had learned after 9/11 that "in the mid-90s, al-Hazmi and al-Mihdhar traveled to Bosnia" [18] where they participated in U.S.-funded clashes between Muslims and Serbs. At that time, the Clinton Administration overthrew the Serbian government.

* The NSA delayed translation and dissemination of information obtained in wiretapped phone calls concerning al-Mihdhar and al-Hazmi until after 9/11. The NSA had information associating al-Hazmi with the bin Laden network. NSA Director Lt. Gen. Michael Hayden said even though the NSA did not share the 1998-99 interceptions, U.S. intelligence by the year 2000 had al-Hazmi and al-Mihdhar "in our sights. We knew of their association with al Qaeda."[19] In addition, the NSA intercepted on Sept. 10, 2001, the messages, "The match begins tomorrow" and "Tomorrow is zero hour" but didn't translate them until Sept. 12.[20]

* FBI and military intelligence agents in Washington were prevented from investigating members of the Bin Laden family in the U.S. prior to 9/11. FBI documents, marked secret and coded 199, leaked to BBC Newsnight and The Guardian in Nov. 2001, show that an investigation of Abdullah bin Laden and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth was shut down. Intelligence sources in Washington told the Guardian: "There were always constraints on investigating the Saudis." They said the restrictions became worse after the Bush administration took over.[21] On June 1, 2004, the World Assembly of Muslim Youth in Alexandria, Virginia was raided by agents of the FBI, U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Joint Terrorism Task Force.[22]

* Aug. 6, 2001: Pres. Bush received a “presidential daily brief” in Crawford, Texas, that mentioned the possibility of an airline hijacking as a domestic threat.[23]

* FBI agents in Minneapolis were denied a warrant on a suspected Islamic terrorist said to be the 20th hijacker. Zacarias Moussaoui, a French Muslim, was arrested on immigration charges on Aug. 16, 2001 after an official at the Pan Am International Flight Academy he was attending called the FAA and FBI saying, "Do you realize how serious this is? This man wants training on a 747. A 747 fully loaded with fuel could be used as a weapon!"[24] The FBI agents wanted to search Moussaoui's computer and personal effects but were denied a warrant by FBI headquarters. The agents requested information from French Intelligence, which indicated that Moussaoui had terrorist connections with al Qaeda. This information was forwarded to FBI headquarters and eventually to the Justice Dept. (DOJ) where they declined to submit it to the FISA court to obtain a warrant on a foreign national. On the day after 9/11, the same information was submitted to the FISA court and a warrant was issued.[25] Michael Maltbie, the FBI supervisory special agent who delayed the request for a warrant was later promoted to field supervisor.[26]

* In Aug, 2001, Raytheon engineers successfully landed a unpiloted Boeing 727 by remote control at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. The purpose of the pilotless system was to allow ground controllers to take over the controls of a hijacked aircraft.[27] A combination of GPS Satellite and ground signals were used to orient the aircraft. Raytheon is the manufacturer of the pilotless Global Hawk surveillance aircraft. On Sept 12, 2001, Raytheon issued a statement that four of their high-level officials and engineers were listed among the dead passengers of Flight 11 which was reported as hijacked and crashed on 9/11.[28]

* In the days before 9/11, unusually high numbers of put options were purchased for the stocks of AMR Corp. and UAL Corp., the parent companies of American Airlines and United Airlines. Investors who engage in such short-selling are betting that the price of the stock will fall. Between September 6 and 7, the Chicago Board Options Exchange saw purchases of 4,744 put options on United Airlines, but only 396 call options. Assuming that 4,000 of the options were bought by people with advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks, the "insiders" would have profited by almost $5 million. The Chicago Board Options Exchange announced that it was investigating reports of unusual trading activity prior to 9/11.[29] According to the Associated Press, unusually high levels of put options were also purchased on Raytheon, Continental, Delta, Northwest, Southwest, USAirways, and Boeing. Security and Exchange Commission Chairman Harvey Pitt told Congress that the agency's "No. 1 priority" was to pursue its worldwide investigation of possible trading by people associated with the terrorists. If such trading did occur, "We will do everything within our power to track those people down and bring them to justice,"[30] In July, 2004, the Securities and Exchange Commission announced that it "did not develop any evidence suggesting that anyone who had advance knowledge of the September 11 attacks traded on the basis of that information."[31][32]

* On the morning of 9/11, Sen. Bob Graham (head of Senate Intelligence Committee) and Rep. Porter Goss (head of House Intelligence Committee) had breakfast with General Mahmoud Ahmad, head of Pakistani Intelligence, who had earlier directed that $100,000 be wired to Mohamad Atta, terrorist ringleader.[33]

* Numerous military exercises, war games and anti-terrorism drills were scheduled for 9/11. FAA and NORAD tracking radar were unable to identify real aircraft from simulated war game aircraft.

- OPERATION NORTHERN VIGILANCE: Planned months in advance of 9/11. It ensured that on 9/11 NORAD jet fighters were transferred to Alaska and Canada to monitor a Russian Air Force exercise, reducing the number of military aircraft available to protect the east coast.[34] Simulated information for the exercise was fed into NORAD radar screens.
- BIOWARFARE EXERCISE TRIPOD II: referred to by Rudolph Giuliani in his public testimony to the 9/11 Commission (no transcript has been released to the public). FEMA arrived in New York City on September 10th to set up a command post at Pier 29 to prepare for a biowarfare exercise scheduled for September 12. As a result, The FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team was in place on 9/11.[35]
- OPERATION VIGILANT GUARDIAN: simulated hijacked planes in the northeastern U.S. Lt. Col. Dawne Deskins, NORAD unit's airborne control and warning officer, was overseeing the exercise. At 8:40 am she took a call from Boston Center which said it had a hijacked airliner. Her first words were, "It must be part of the exercise."[36]
- OPERATION NORTHERN GUARDIAN: Few details are available but it appears to have involved deployment of aircraft from Langley Air Force Base to Iceland.[37] In late August, 2001, six jets and 70 people deployed to Iceland for Operation Northern Guardian. Another six jets and 115 people deployed to Turkey to enforce the northern Iraqi no-fly zone. The members in Operation Northern Guardian in Iceland returned Dec. 3rd, 2001.[38]

- John Fulton, CIA, gave a presentation at a Law Enforcement Seminar on June 6, 2002 that on the morning of September 11th 2001, he and his team at the CIA were running a pre-planned simulation to explore the emergency response issues that would be created if a plane were to strike a building.[39][40]

- The FAA ordered the Pittsburgh air traffic control tower evacuated at 9:49 a.m. Flight 93 crashed (or was shot down) in Shanksville, Pennsylvania at 10:06. [41]

- United Flight 175 (second aircraft to hit the Trade Towers) changed transponder codes (its flight identification) twice in one minute.[42]

-Not one of the four hijacked pilots entered the 4-digit hijack code to signal they had been hijacked.[43]

- At least six air traffic controllers who dealt with two of the hijacked airliners made a tape recording that same day describing the events, but the tape was destroyed by the quality-assurance manager without anyone making a transcript of it or even listening to it.[44] The manager crushed the cassette in his hand, shredded the tape and dropped the pieces into different trash cans around the building, according to the inspector general of the Transportation Dept.

* The ignored testimony of Sec. of Transportation Norman Mineta: "During the time that the airplane was coming into the Pentagon, there was a young man who would come in and say to the Vice President, 'The plane is 50 miles out.' 'The plane is 30 miles out.' And when it got down to 'the plane is 10 miles out,' the young man also said to the Vice President, 'Do the orders still stand?' And the Vice President turned and whipped his neck around and said, 'Of course the orders still stand. Have you heard anything to the contrary?"[45]


Blue line to green arrow: depicts the high-speed spiral dive of Flight 77, turning 330 degrees at 530 MPH to strike the part of the Pentagon being renovated.[46] Red arrows depict easier, higher populated targets bypassed by the "terrorists."

* The official story is that the black boxes (voice and data recorders) from Flight 11 and Flight 175 were never retrieved from the World Trade Tower wreckage. However, firefighters Mike Bellone and Nicholas DeMasi say they assisted the FBI in retrieving three of the four black boxes in December, 2001. When recently interviewed by the American Free Press, Bellone said, "They confronted me and told me not to say anything. I said, 'Give me a good reason.' When they couldn't, I told them I wouldn't shut up about it. Why should I? I have nothing to hide and nothing to gain. It's the truth and Nick and I are sticking to our story as we always have."[47]

The growth of Islam today

Based on the percentages published in the 2003 CIA factbook, Islam is the second largest religion in the world. According to the World Network of Religious Futurists (http://www.wnrf.org/news/trends.html), the U.S. Center for World Mission (http://www.religioustolerance.org/growth_isl_chr.htm), and the controversial Samuel Huntington, Islam is growing faster numerically than any other religion; this growth is attributed to a higher birth rate, and a higher rate of conversion than other religions. In the U.S., more people convert to Islam than any other faith, especially amongst African Americans.

The religion of Islam brought by the Prophet Muhammad began in the Hejaz region of present-day Saudi Arabia in about 610, and now comprises 1.45 billion believers, 22.82\% of the world's population. However, only 18\% of Muslims live in the Arab world; a fifth is found in Sub-Saharan Africa, about 30\% in the Indian subcontinental region of Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, and the world's largest single Muslim community (within the bounds of one nation) is in Indonesia. There are also significant Islamic populations in China, Europe (especially in the Mediterranean countries), Central Asia, and Russia. There are approximately 5 million Muslims in North America. The world population is growing at about 1.10% per year, but the percentage of Muslim population is increasing by 1.4% per year, mostly due to higher birth rate of African and Asian countries. If this is simply extrapolated, Islam may reach 2 billion adherents in 2020; it will not overtake Christianity before the 2030s, however, but since world population is projected to curb before that time, this estimate is unreliable. Birth rates in many Muslim countries have begun to decline, although more slowly than in other nations, which also may be a factor.

Why are so many Women converting to Islam?

According to "The Plain Truth", February 1984, in its 50 Year Anniversary Issue, quoting from the "World Almanac and Book of Facts 1935" and "Reader's Digest Almanac and Yearbook 1983", between 1934 and 1984.

Christianity increased 47%
World Population increased 136%
Islam increased 235%

 

100,000 people per year in America alone, are converting to Islam. For every 1 male convert to Islam, 4 females convert to Islam.

They're discovering the FACTS and not basing their decisions on biased media. They realise they deserve to know the complete unadulterated truth.
 

1. The Bible Convicts Women as the original Sinners (ie. Eve picking from the forbidden tree){Genesis 2:4-3:24}.

The Koran Clarifies it was Adam Not Eve {Koran 7:19-25}
 

2. The Bible says "The Birth of a Daughter is a loss" {Ecclesiasticus 22:3}.

The Koran says both are an Equal Blessing {Koran 42:49}
 

3. The Bible forbids women from speaking in church {I Corinthians 14:34-35}.

The Koran says women can argue with the Prophet {58:1}

4. In the Bible, divorced Women are Labeled as an Adulteress, not men {Matthew 5:31-32}

The Koran does Not have Biblical double standards{Koran 30:21}
 

5. In The Bible, widows and sisters do not inherit Any property or wealth, only men do {Numbers 27:1-11}

The Koran abolished this male greed {Koran 4:22} and God protects all.

In The Koran, God limits the number to 4 only under certain situations (with the wife's permission)and prefers you marry only one wife {Koran 4:3} The Koran gives the woman the right to choose who to marry.

One must ask a simple question here, who is really punished, the man who raped the woman or the woman who was raped? According to the Bible, you have to spend the rest of your life with the man who raped you.

The Prophet Muhammad Says {Volume 9, Book 86, Number 101} Narrated by Aisha:"It is essential to have the consent of a virgin (for the marriage)".

  Harsh Reality

There has been no dearth of movements and organisations working for the rights, upliftment, liberation and emancipation of women. There is a lot of hue and cry about their status, role and rights. Inspite of all this the women related statistics make a dismal reading.
 

• 5,000 brides are murdered or commit suicide in relation to dowry every year in India.
• Female foeticide is rampant in India and China. Of 8,000 abortions conducted at a clinic in Mumbai, 7,999 were female fetuses.
• Some 600,000 women - die each year from pregnancy related causes, most of which are preventable.
• 70% of world illiterates are women.
• 70% of people in abject poverty are women.
• Only 1% of world assets are held by women.
• In Africa for every HIV infected male there are six HIV infected females.
• 50% to 75% women experience domestic voilence.
• Nearly 30% marriages end in divorce in the west.
• Half the population on globe lacks basic sanitation and 1/3 of the world population is without safe drinking water.
• Basic education for all would cost $6 billion and water and sanitation for all would cost $9 billion.
• Reproductive health service for all women would cost $12 million annually.

• $700 billion spent on world’s militaries
• $400 billion spent on narcotic drugs.
• $50 billion spent on cigarettes.
• $33 billion spent on cosmetics and weight loss programs
• $17 billion spent on pet food.
• $12 billion is spent on perfume in Europe and USA.
• $11 billion is spent on ice cream in Europe.

Islam and Christianity

Goal of Terrorism

Editorial - One purpose of the attack against the USA was to help unify Muslims throughout the world. The terrorists were trying to get the USA to bomb and invade Muslim nations. The terrorists believed that the Muslims of the world would unite against the USA if the USA kills innocent Muslims while seeking revenge from the attack.

Muslim nations have not responded to the attack as the terrorists planned. Instead, they have united behind the teachings of Islam--which are clearly against killing innocent people. The viciousness of the terrorists is left standing in stark contrast.

Instead of uniting Muslims against non-Muslims, the terrorists have united Muslims with non-Muslims to destroy the abomination of terrorism. Terrorism, killing innocent civilians, is an abomination to every major religion. May it be destroyed throughout the world. May we have the wisdom to destroy the causes of terrorism.

May we, in our efforts to eliminate terrorism, completely avoid any further civilian casualties.

In a short time, we have gone from the edge of World War III to the possibility of peace on earth. This is an extraordinary turn of events, justifying deep reflection from persons of every faith.

 

 

Islam Is Spread By War

This is one of the things we are led to believe by prejudiced and ignorant people. Islam is a derivative of the Arabic word meaning "peace"! Islam commands that Muslims keep and enforce peace. Our own Prophet said, "The Pen is mightier than the Sword." and Islam is a religion whereby there is no compulsion.

 

Islam and Terrorism

Hamza Yusuf, an Islamic scholar, has made several comments about Islam and terrorism. "The Prophet Muhammad said, 'Do not kill women or children or non-combatants and do not kill old people or religious people....'"

"Suicide is haram in Islam. It's prohibited, like a mortal sin. Moreover, murder is haram. And to kill civilians is murder."

"The Prophet also said that there are people who kill in the name of Islam and go to hell. Moreover, when he was asked why, he said, 'Because they weren't fighting truly for the sake of God.'

Muslims Against Terrorism requests media not use phrases such as "Islamic Fundamentalists" or "Muslim Terrorists" regarding terrorist attacks "Because such things do not exist. Islam is the religion of peace, love and mutual respect. Islam is the religion of moderation. Islam is the religion of human value and dignity." They ask that religious affiliation not be mentioned in terrorist attacks.

Editor's Note - Terrorists associated with the September 11 disaster could be called "al Qaeda Terrorists" since their involvement has been proven according to US, British, and Pakistani officials. When the Ku Klux Klan claimed credit for terrorist attacks in the 1960's, they were not identified by religion as "Christian Fundamentalists" or "Christian Terrorists." Although they identified themselves as a Christian movement, media never labeled them as Christians because their terrorism was regarded as a basic violation of Christian principles. Jihad "is an Arabic word the root of which is Jahada, which means to strive for a better way of life." "Jihad should not be confused with Holy War. Muslims Keep Their Wives In The Home

Some choose to spend most of the time inside due to the immoral society that waits for them outside their homes. Others just stay at home to study or are homemakers. Many have jobs and go to religious functions several times a week.

 

Louisiana Against American Citizens

It's not what you think. These two times, the offenses were against Americans wearing Muslim religious garb.

The first was an incident during school at West Jefferson High School, when a boorish and ignorant teacher of world history (!), one Wes Mix, ridiculed and demeaned a young woman who is an observant Muslim, ending by yanking off her (religously mandated) headscarf, the hijab. (In my mind, this is akin to compelling a non-Muslim woman to bare her breasts.)

Reached at home Tuesday [February 3, 2004] night, Mix called the incident a "nonissue" and a "bunch of craziness." He said he was enjoying a dinner of red beans and rice and a beer. "I'm not worried at all," he said, adding that "all of this has been resolved."

The good ol' boy network seems to have saved Mix's ignorant hiney, because he has suffered no economic loss and is inflicting his brand of "history" on some other victims students at another, unnamed school.

The second incident occured Saturday May 22, 2004, at West Jefferson High School's graduation exercises, which were held at Alerio Center, one of three graduations held that day. Each of the graduates were given five tickets. Evidently, forgeries (to allow more family members to enter) have been a problem in the past, so the tickets were examined closely. Especially tickets held by Muslim women wearing the hijab.

One of the graduating seniors is an American boy of the Muslim religion; he gave one of his tickets to his sister, Ms. Maha Askar. Ms. Askar is an observant Muslim and wears the hajib (link is to a blog discussion with more hijab links). Instead of entering her brother's graduation ceremony, Ms. Askar was taken out of line, arrested, and later at the police station, forcibly disrobed.

When Maha asked the security guard why he had singled her out for inspection, as well as other women who were wearing the Islamic headscarf, the guard responded, “Y’all people always have fake tickets.”  When the police officer grabbed her to put her in handcuffs, her sister-in-law, who was accompanying her, told him “you can’t touch her like that,” to which he replied, “This is how we do it in this country.”

West Jefferson High School teacher reassigned in veil-pulling case Muslim family cites officials' fast action, Wednesday, February 04, 2004: By Rob Nelson, West Bank bureau

Sitting in Wes Mix's 10th-grade world history class at West Jefferson High School in Harvey, Maryam Motar said she had become used to the "jokes."

First, there were the times when she said her teacher thought she was of Indian descent and called her "Little Curry One."

Then came jabs about how Motar, an Iraqi, hailed from a Third World country, she said. Thursday's tease, the 17-year-old sophomore said, was about how she would "bomb us" if she ever went back to her country.

Motar said the final straw came Friday as Mix was passing out tests. After pulling back her religiously mandated head scarf, or hijab, Motar said Mix told her, "I hope God punishes you. No, I'm sorry, I hope Allah punishes you."

Motar said the teacher later told her, "I didn't know you had hair under there."

West Jefferson Principal Lale Geer confirmed Tuesday that Mix was removed from the school on Monday, and school system officials said he was transferred to another teaching position in an unnamed school after Motar and her family complained and sought support from the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington, D.C.

Superintendent Diane Roussel said the incident is under investigation.

"We have to get our facts together," she said. "I have to listen to both sides of the story. I do realize it's very offensive to the Islamic community. The concerns they expressed are sincere ones."

Reached at home Tuesday night, Mix called the incident a "nonissue" and a "bunch of craziness."

He said he was enjoying a dinner of red beans and rice and a beer. "I'm not worried at all," he said, adding that "all of this has been resolved."

Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the national council, applauded Mix's transfer and said the council became involved after outraged Muslims in the area contacted the agency.

"They view (the transfer) as a good step, but they want to know what happens to this teacher and future students," Hooper said, calling the school district's reaction to the case "unusually swift."

Though she was able to brush off Mix's earlier remarks, the yanking of her head scarf went too far, Motar said. "There's no joke about it," she said. "It was disrespect. I don't think he's fit to teach." "We would never accept something like that," said Motar's mother, Haifa Gareb.

The hijab is commonly worn in public by Muslim women, along with long-sleeved shirts and pants, to preserve their beauty for their family and husbands, said Irene Salahuddin, a Muslim who lives in Gretna. It's a religious and cultural statement, she said.

Hooper said the scarves had become a magnet for anti-Arab behavior, especially in the midst of the war in Iraq. Motar said she never reported Mix's earlier remarks because making it through the school year was more important to her.

"I just thought it was stupidity," she said. "I didn't want to think about it. I just wanted to let it go."

Motar's uncle, Casey Kasim, who met with Geer on Monday, said he was shocked by such behavior from a teacher. "That's why I'm so disappointed," Kasim said. "I never expected anything like that from a teacher." Still, Kasim applauded West Jefferson's response. Geer "was very sympathetic, and his reaction to the problem was very good," he said.

Others in Motar's family said they are still waiting for an apology from the school district. Family members said they have endured rounds of taunting since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the war in Iraq.

From angry shouts of "Go home" while sitting in traffic and references to Osama bin Laden, they have suffered hostility for months, they said.

Still, their goal was not to cost Mix his job, Motar's aunt, Samir Kasim, said. "We want him to understand to appreciate our religion."

Geer said he was shocked by the incident and said it was uncharacteristic for West Jefferson.

"This school is filled with a lot of different ethnic and religious groups, and we embrace it," he said. "We have kids from all over the world, and I'm just sorry this happened."

Well, I guess diversity training for the high school should be added to diversity training for the Jefferson Parish Sherrif's department.

Investigation Demanded Into Mistreatment at High School Graduation in Louisiana

Westwego, LA (May 22, 2004) - Maha Askar, an American-born 26-year-old Loyola University New Orleans graduate in Biology, was removed with excessive force from the Alario Center. She was there to see her brother graduate from West Jefferson High School, the same school which, earlier this year, had an incident with a teacher pulling off a Muslim student’s headscarf in class.

Ms. Askar was standing in the entrance line when a security guard removed her and spent five minutes examining her ticket to see if it was a forgery. When she complained, the police were called and placed her and her three teenage cousins in handcuffs after shooting one of them with a tazer.

Throughout the ordeal, which was witnessed by numerous by-standers, both the Alario Center security guards and police made statements indicating a prejudicial and pre-judgmental attitude. When Maha asked the security guard why he had singled her out for inspection, as well as other women who were wearing the Islamic headscarf, the guard responded, “Y’all people always have fake tickets.”  When the police officer grabbed her to put her in handcuffs, her sister-in-law, who was accompanying her, told him “you can’t touch her like that,” to which he replied, “This is how we do it in this country.”

At one point, during the commotion, her cousin complained, “You don’t have to do it like that,” to which the officer responded by shooting him with a tazer in front of dozens of witnesses who, by this time, were gathered around, filming and photographing the event. After the teen was already on the ground, witnesses report that the officer kept pushing the button on the tazer to continue to administer the electric shock. Later, after being taken into custody, he asked the police officer if he could see the video. The officer told him jokingly that he could watch it on America’s Funniest Home Videos.

Eventually, the General Manager of the Alario Center, upon being informed of the disturbance, arrived and shouted to the police to “Get her out of here, get her out of here.” Maha Askar was then taken into the police station and had her headscarf forcibly removed, even after she specifically pointed out that she considered that a violation of her person.

Maha had received the ticket from her graduating brother, who was given, along with all graduating seniors, five tickets by the school so that his family could attend his graduation. When asked how she felt about what happened, Maha replied, “Something like this makes me feel like a foreigner in my own country. I live here, went to school here, work here, and then after 26 years, something like this happens. It’s really quite unbelievable.”

The Muslim American Society’s Freedom Foundation is currently talking to the Jefferson Parish Police Department and will be filing a complaint with the Internal Affairs division concerning the events. The department has assured the Muslim community that if there was any improper conduct, it would be addressed and action would be taken. Further, the Muslim community is asking that Maha receive an apology from the Alario Center and that appropriate disciplinary action be taken with respect to the security guards involved in the incident. They will also be contacting the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice regarding what is becoming a pattern of discrimination against the Muslim residents of Jefferson Parish.

In the past, the Islamic Shura Council of Greater New Orleans has been invited by the Homeland Security Department to give seminars explaining law enforcement issues on dealing with the Muslim community. The New Orleans and Jefferson Parish Police departments have attended these seminars, along with 24 other local law-enforcement agencies

"From what I've heard from different friends of mine who have converted to Islam, there are a few main reasons for most conversions.

1. Islam is a religious lifestyle, not just a quick Sunday morning church visit and a label. Although some Christians do pray before each meal and spend much time with their Bible, etc.many don't in the USA. Islam is something that can't be shunted into a few spare hours. You pray five times a day. Your dress code is affected; even your food choices are explained in the Qur'an. Many converts like it because they feel actively involved and as if they are truly religious.

2. For women, it is a big and welcome change from the "in your face" sexuality of western culture. Women are not required by the Qur'an to veil. They are required to dress modestly and it is *recommended* that they cover their hair. However, most do veil and some go farther with niquab (the face screen) or other traditional clothes. Women dressed like this consider themselves marked as religious women, not easy dates. They don't get hit on. No one gawks at their bodies. They are clearly off limits sexually and many that I personally know say it is liberating not to have to conform to western standards of sexy dress, makeup and spending so much time and money on appearance. You buy a five-dollar hijab, put your hair in a ponytail and cover, wear long skirt and a tunic shirt -you're set.

3. Islam is also growing because many people are not satisfied with Christianity. They feel it is too liberal, too fluid and changes for the culture. Islam on the other hand is more rigid and does not as a whole allow much for modern changes and the whims of society. Many like it because they feel other religions have loose standards.

That's what I got from the new Muslimah's group at Yahoo, Islamway women's board and a few other friends of mine. Stats taken by many college groups say that women convert 4 times more often then men.

Why Are Women Turning to Islam
At a time when Islam is faced with hostile media coverage particularly where the status of women in Islam is concerned, it may be quite surprising to learn that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, and even more ironic to discover that the majority of converts to Islam are WOMEN.
The status of women is society is neither a new issue nor is it a fully settled one, and where Islam is mentioned, for many the term 'Muslim Women' prompts images of exhausted mothers chained to the stove, 'victims' suppressed in a life of indoctrination, frantic to be westernized and so on. Others will go to great lengths to explain how the hijaab is an obstacle, clouding the mind, and comment that female converts are either brainwashed, stupid or traitors to their sex. I reject such accusations and pose to them the following question: why is it that so many women who have been born and brought in the so called 'civilized' societies of Europe and America are willing to reject their 'liberty' and 'independence' to embrace a religion that supposedly oppresses them and is widely assumed to be prejudicial to them?
As a Christian convert to Islam, I can only present my personal experience and reasons for rejecting the 'freedom' that women claim to have in this society in favor of the only Religion that truly liberates women by giving us a status and position, which is completely unique when compared with that of non-Muslim counterparts. Before coming to Islam, I had strong feminist tendencies and recognized that where the women was concerned, a lot of shuffling around had been going on, yet without being able to pin her on the social map. The problem was ongoing: new 'women's issues' being raised without the previous ones being satisfactorily resolved. Like the many women who shared my background, I would accuse Islam of being a sexist religion, discriminating, oppressing and giving men the greater privileges. All this coming from a person who did not even know Islam, one who had been blinded due to ignorance and had accepted this deliberately distorted definition of Islam.

However, despite my criticisms of Islam, inwardly I wasn't satisfied with my own status as a woman in this society. It seemed to me that society would define such terms as 'liberty' and 'freedom' and then these definitions were accepted by women without us even attempting to question or challenge them. There was clearly a great contradiction between what women were told in theory and what actually happens in practice. The more I pondered, the greater emptiness I felt within. I was slowly beginning to reach a stage where my dissatisfaction with my status as a women in this society, was really a reflection of my greater dissatisfaction with society itself. Everything seemed to be degenerating backwards, despite the claims that the 2000 was going to be the decade of success and prosperity. Something vital seemed to be missing from my life and nothing would fill this vacuum. Being a Christian did not do anything for me, and I began to question the validity of only remembering God one day a week - Sundays! As with many other Christians too, I had become disillusioned with the hypocrisy of the Church and was becoming increasingly unhappy with the concept of Trinity and the deification of Jesus. Eventually, I began to look into Islam. At first, I was only interested in looking at those issues, which specifically dealt with women. I was surprised. What I read and learned taught me a lot about myself as a woman, and also about where the real oppression of women lies: in every other system and way of life outside of Islam. Muslim women have been given their rights in every aspect of the religion with clear definitions of their role in society - as had men - with no injustice against either of them. As Allah says: Whoever does deeds of righteousness, be they male or female, and have faith, they will enter paradise and not the least injustice will be done to them [Nisaa 4:124]
So having amended my misconceptions about the true status of women in Islam, I was now looking further. I wanted to find that thing which was going to fill the vacuum in my life. My attention was drawn towards the beliefs and practices of Islam. It was only through establishing the fundamentals that I would understand where to turn and what to prioritize. These are often the areas, which receive little attention or controversy in society, and when studying the Islamic Creed, it becomes clear why this is the case: such concise, faultless and wholly comprehensive details cannot be found elsewhere. "

Islam

Green is the color of the prophet Mohammed who himself declared it his favourite color and who's cloak and turban were green. Even today only his direct successors - the Kaliphs - are allowed to wear a green turban. The Holy Banner - the most precious relic of Islam - is green with golden embroidery. Mohammed supposedly carried this very banner into the holy war which resulted in conquering Mecca. Green is also the predominating color in Paradise where it stands for flowery fields and eternal oases. Green is the color of the Arabic League and many Arabic countries have included green in their national flags as it symbolizes the unity of all arabic nations. Green is also the life-giving color of all desert peoples.

The significance of the color green in the Arabic world is even older than Mohammed. The legendary Islamic saint al-Chadir meaning the Green Man leading Nomads of the desert towards water and accompanying travelers on their way. The legend describes the journey of al Chadir through the Land of Darkness until he arrived at a bright white rock. All other travelers were thrown down from this rock but al-chadir was allowed to ascend and reach the "Source of Life". After drinking the precious water his cloak became green and he reached immortality.

I'd like to explain but the explanation could go on for pages.  To put it simply, "786" is the total value of the letters of "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim". Here we begin with Alif, ba, ta, tha etc. The other method is known as the Abjad method or ordinal method. In this method each letter has an arithmetic value assigned to it from one to one thousand. The letters are arranged in the following order: Abjad, Hawwaz, Hutti, Kalaman, Sa'fas, Qarshat, Sakhaz, Zazagh. This arrangement was done, most probably in the 3rd century of Hijrah during the 'Abbasid period, following other Semitic languages such as Phoenician, Aramaic, Hebrew, Syriac, Chaldean etc.

If you take the numeric values of all the letters of the Basmalah, according to the Abjad order, the total will be 786. In the Indian subcontinent the Abjad numerals became quite popular. Some people, mostly in India and Pakistan, use 786 as a substitute for Bismillah. They write this number to avoid writing the name of Allah or the Qur'anic ayah on ordinary papers. This tradition is not from the time of the Prophet -peace be upon him- or his Sahabah. It developed much later, perhaps during the later 'Abbasid period. We do not know of any reputable Imams or Jurists who used this number instead of the Bismillah.
