Myths About Islam- PLEASE READ!!!

  • Mood:

Islam and Christianity

Islam teaches respect for Christianity. Muslims believe in the Old Testament of the Bible and the same God as Christians. Muslims believe that Jesus was a Prophet of God but not the Son of God. (USA Today)

Jews Are Hated By Islam

Islam tells us not to hate innocent people. We are told to respect Jews because we are worshiping the same God. The hatred between Arabs and Israelis is political. It is often confused as being religious. Not all Arabs hate Israelis nor vice versa. You will find extremists on both sides!

105.The God's messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed a mixed company of Muslims, polytheists who worshipped idols and Jews and he gave them a salutation. (Bukhari, Muslim). (Sayings of Muhammad. by Prof. Ghazi Ahmad).

Goal of Terrorism

Editorial
- One purpose of the attack against the USA was to help unify Muslims throughout the world. The terrorists were trying to get the USA to bomb and invade Muslim nations. The terrorists believed that the Muslims of the world would unite against the USA if the USA kills innocent Muslims while seeking revenge from the attack.

"If anyone slew a person...it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people."
(Al-Islam - Al-Maidah: 32)

Muslim nations have not responded to the attack as the terrorists planned. Instead, they have united behind the teachings of Islam--which are clearly against killing innocent people. The viciousness of the terrorists is left standing in stark contrast.

Non-Muslim nations have not responded to the attack as the terrorists planned. Instead of uniting Muslims against non-Muslims, the terrorists have united Muslims with non-Muslims to destroy the abomination of terrorism. Terrorism, killing innocent civilians, is an abomination to every major religion. May it be destroyed throughout the world. May we have the wisdom to destroy the causes of terrorism.

May we, in our efforts to eliminate terrorism, completely avoid any further civilian casualties.

In a short time, we have gone from the edge of World War III to the possibility of peace on earth. This is an extraordinary turn of events, justifying deep reflection from persons of every faith.

Islam Is Spread By War

This is one of the things we are led to believe by prejudiced and ignorant people. Islam is a derivative of the Arabic word meaning "peace"! Islam commands that Muslims keep and enforce peace. Our own Prophet said, "The Pen is mightier than the Sword." and Islam is a religion whereby there is no compulsion.

Islam and Terrorism

Islam prohibits terrorism. Islam prohibits a Muslim from attacking innocent civilians. (Al-Islam)

"Islam does not support terrorism under any circumstances. Terrorism goes against every principle in Islam. If a Muslim engages in terrorism, he is not following Islam. He may be wrongly using the name of Islam for political or financial gain." (USA Today)

"Muslims throughout their history never allowed the killing of civilians, even in the midst of wars such as the Crusades. There is no respected Islamic scholar here in Saudi Arabia or anywhere else in the Muslim world that would support such a fatwa." (The Guardian - Khashoggi)

Hamza Yusuf, an Islamic scholar, has made several comments about Islam and terrorism. "The Prophet Muhammad said, 'Do not kill women or children or non-combatants and do not kill old people or religious people....'"

"Suicide is haram in Islam. It's prohibited, like a mortal sin. Moreover, murder is haram. And to kill civilians is murder."

"The Prophet also said that there are people who kill in the name of Islam and go to hell. Moreover, when he was asked why, he said, 'Because they weren't fighting truly for the sake of God.'

Muslims Against Terrorism requests media not use phrases such as "Islamic Fundamentalists" or "Muslim Terrorists" regarding terrorist attacks "Because such things do not exist. Islam is the religion of peace, love and mutual respect. Islam is the religion of moderation. Islam is the religion of human value and dignity." They ask that religious affiliation not be mentioned in terrorist attacks.

Editor's Note - Terrorists associated with the September 11 disaster could be called "al Qaeda Terrorists" since their involvement has been proven according to US, British, and Pakistani officials. When the Ku Klux Klan claimed credit for terrorist attacks in the 1960's, they were not identified by religion as "Christian Fundamentalists" or "Christian Terrorists." Although they identified themselves as a Christian movement, media never labeled them as Christians because their terrorism was regarded as a basic violation of Christian principles. We owe the same respect to the Muslim religion. (Pronounce al Qaeda as "Al Ka-e-dah.")
(Muslims Against Terrorism)

Jihad "is an Arabic word the root of which is Jahada, which means to strive for a better way of life." "Jihad should not be confused with Holy War. The latter does not exist in Islam nor will Islam allow its followers to be involved in a Holy War." "Not only in peace but also in war Islam prohibits terrorism, kidnapping, and hijacking, when carried against civilians. Whoever commits such violations is considered a murderer in Islam, and is to be punished by the Islamic state." ( Islamic Server of MSA-USC)

Muslims Are Terrorists

Some Muslims are distorted in their thinking, but so are some Christians. What about the terrorists who rape and molest? What about the terrorists who are gang members, or in the KKK? Are they not terrorists? Why isn't their religious affiliation brought into the light? Islam teaches peace!

All Muslims Are Arabs

The truth is, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world! Arabs only account for 18% of the Muslim population.  I myself am not Arabic but can read it.  (The Quran is available is English also!)

Smoking Is Allowed In Islam

Islam insists that a person not bring harm upon him, herself, or anyone else. Smoking does just that! Smoking is no more allowed in Islam than it is in Christianity. Yet we still see a both faiths doing it.

Islam Encourages Polygamy

Polygamy is only allowed under strict conditions that must be met. He must treat all wives exactly the same. (This means giving each wife the exact amount of time, money, and love to each wife. Since this is nearly impossible to do, most men do not practice this ancient custom.) To find out more, visit: Women & Islam

Islam Oppresses Women

Alimony and voting rights were secured by women only AFTER Islam came along 1400 years ago! It is probably the ONLY religion, which gives so much status to women. To find out more, visit: Women & Islam

Muslims Don't Believe In Jesus

We do accept Jesus, in fact, we believe in ALL of the biblical prophets. We believe that he performed miracles. We believe in the virgin birth. We accept him as a prophet of Allah. We just don't accept him as "the son of God". To find out more, visit: What do Muslims Feel about Jesus (pbuh)?

Muslims Don't Eat Meat

We are only allowed to eat meat that is slaughtered a different way. That is why we only buy from our butchers. The meat we eat must be slaughtered in God's name. To find out more, visit: Animals in Islam

Muslims Don't Like Pets

A companion of the Prophet was given the name Abu Hurrarah. This name means 'father of the cats'. He was given this name because he always had a kitten with him.

Our Prophet was very, very kind to animals and pets. One incident: A cat fell asleep on the long shirt Prophet Muhammad was wearing. In order to not wake, the sleeping cat, he cut away the portion of his shirt upon which the cat lay and freed himself to leave the room. To find out more, visit: Animals in Islam

Muslims Don't Contribute To Society

Children have Muslims to blame for their Algebra homework. Modern science, and medicine has been deeply influenced by Muslims. To find out more, visit: Islam and Science - The Twin Sisters

Muslims Keep Their Wives In The Home

Some choose to spend most of the time inside due to the immoral society that waits for them outside their homes. Others just stay at home to study or are homemakers. Many have jobs and go to religious functions several times a week.

Proof For The Prohibition Of Smoking

Smoking did not exist in the time of Rasulullah, but our magnificent Deen has laid down general principles from which many laws are derived. From these principles, many Ulama (Allah's mercy be upon them) have come to the conclusion that smoking is haram.

An verse of the Noble Qur'an states, 'And do not throw yourself into destruction with your own hands.' (Al-Baqarah 2:195). Smoking causes fatal sicknesses, for example, lung cancer, tuberculosis, etc. In another verse, Allah Ta'ala says, 'And do not kill yourselves'. (An-Nisaa 4:29). Nabi said, 'Whosoever drinks poison, thereby killing himself, will sip this poison forever and ever in the fire of Jahannum.'

I question many of the learned, knowledgeble people in Islam(Ulama) You rightly remind me though that according to the life of the prophet (pbuh)"Discard that which fills you with suspicion (Ulamas)and hold on to that in which you trust,Mohammed (pbuh) who said "Do not harm yourselves or others"

Yes, what is a weird coincidence is that yesterday I went to the mosque for Isha and the Saturday lecture was on smoking and the same conclusion was reached including that quote and others.

Many of the sayings are advice not sins. Many saying are concocted by mullahs even in bygone days. Muslims try to take advice from the prophet and live in his shoes. Do as he did but one must use ones own brains and judgment based on Koran. After all it was the Koran that God sent to the people first and foremost and it is Gods words that we must follow, first and foremost otherwise we will be making a God out of the Prophet (PBUH). Please forgive me for saying this it is my own belief.

That's true and that's what is widely believed to what happened to Jesus and Christianity. They loved him so much they started believing he was the Son of God and performed those miracles without the help of God even though it still says in the Bible itself that Jesus prayed God, etc and he wouldn't if he had the power of God as in the Trinity.

Assalaam alaikum, mashAllah, you have a very nice site (sorry, I haven't read the whole thing yet.) About smoking, I am an American Muslim woman who used to smoke even after taking shahada. It was something that I could not give up. For years I hid from everyone because I felt it was very shameful and inappropriate for a Muslim woman to be seen smoking. So when I was out, driving in my car, I would take off my hijab so people would not recognize me as a Muslim. It would make a bad name for Muslim women if non-Muslims saw a "hijabi" smoking! I wanted to quit so badly, but as any smoker knows, it is almost impossible! Not only was it hurting my lungs, my health and the health of others (by breathing my second hand smoke) it was preventing me from observing proper hijab. So it was also hurting my deen and my imaan. Alhumdulillah, I have finally quit smoking, back in January, with the help of Allah and SmokeAway! Now when I see and smell cigarette smoke, it is very unpleasent and I can't believe that I used to look and smell like that. And best of all, I no longer have any excuse or reason to take of my hijab. I no long have to hide from friends and family. I no longer feel "trapped" in long meetings or visits, waiting for a chance to sneak out to get a few puffs. I feel very free now. InshaAllah, other smokers will read this and get some encouragement. It is very possible to quit smoking, not easy but possible. Pray to Allah for help and put down $40 for some SmokeAway at Wal Mart. You no longer have to spend over $200 to buy it from a TV ad!
